Fantastic Mollino

For the 2018 edition of Milan Design Week Woolrich illustrates a project of genre contamination - art, design, photography and architecture – and chooses the simple flair to represent it. The eclectic nature of the brand meets the manifesto of the Architects and digital innovators duo - #allisdesign - outlining the starting point of the narration of a shared path. Carlo Mollino is the protagonist and symbol of this journey.

The eclectic nature of the brand meets the manifesto of the Architects and digital innovators duo - #allisdesign - outlining the starting point of the narration of a shared path. Carlo Mollino is the protagonist and symbol of this journey.

Mollino falls outside all categories, enfant terrible of Italian architecture, restless and unconventional at all costs. Mollino is among the most brilliant and enigmatic exponents of avantgarde movement, as well as part of the group of lone inventors, that includes Leonardo Da Vinci. He was: architect, designer, photographer, craftsman, aviator, skier, pilot, fashion designer and traveller. He created: buildings, furniture, set designs, clothes, objects, accessories, photographs, patents, structures, car bodies, essays.

Uncontrollable, almost to the point of unintelligibility, Carlo Mollino has never joined a group or subscribed to a manifesto, and today, we are telling his story also thanks to the few characters who were able to grasp his genius, among which we remember Gio Ponti, Bruno Zevi and Kidder Smith. Mollino’s originality stems from his passions; critics did not warmly welcome him when he was alive and, today, we would define him as an outsider among his peers. It was only after his demise that The Mollino Case was born. Woolrich and simple flair developed a story that encapsulates different elements; a journey through the whole universe of Carlo Mollino, through some of his works, photographs and furniture pieces that have made him one of the key figures of the 20th century.

A tribute to a rebel: Carlo Mollino. “Everything is permissible so long as it's fantastic!”. Carlo Mollino
