Brera Design District is ready for Brera Design Week 2108

“Empathy connects design with life, what is beautiful and useful with human nature, being in tune also with its imperfection”

Brera Design District, the most important design district in Italy, launches its official agenda for the Brera Design Week 2018. This year, empathy is the new call for designers.

With 180 showrooms, 300,000 visitors and 300 events, the Brera Design District is one of the key and most visited destinations during the Fuorisalone. Studiolabo signs the whole organization and its 9th edition will be presenting an extensive program including territorial projects, international brand launches, cultural events, as well as the "Lezioni di Design" award. Just like every edition, it will present an official theme and this year’s theme will be the best way to envision design…empathy.

Laura Boella, professor of Moral Philosophy at Università degli Studi di Milano said, “Empathy connects design with life, what is beautiful and useful with human nature, being in tune also with its imperfection”. Knowing the users deeply is always the starting point when designing a product especially in nowadays digitalized world, where human technology and design are needed more than ever.
“Be Human: designing with empathy” is the theme for 2018 edition a theme that came up and was amply discussed during the Brera Design Days when working with Fondazione Empatia Milano.

As part of the theme, three main ambassadors were chosen for their contribution to the world of empathic design: Daniele Lago, Elena Salmistraro and Cristina Celestino. This year the "Lezioni di Design" award was given to Constance Gennari, together with Marianne Gosset for The Socialite Family, an online platform that by telling personal stories reveals the empathic connection between interior design and lifestyles.

The signature events by Brera design district comprise "Souvenir Milano", curated by Raffaella Guidobono, which features a limited edition collection made by 12 designers presenting the city as a handmade iconic product. Brera Gourmet Aperitif, the peaceful spot to visit after a day at the Milan design Week, a design and gourmet experience hosted by the bartenders of Bistrot Giovanni Cova & C. and the team of Chef Giuseppe Greco. Both unmissable projects, as well as Cristina Celestino 1928 tram intervention, Pierattelli Architetture Hidden Garden, Eataly´s MI-ORTO urban project, Elena Salmistraro for Timberland’s installation in Piazza XXV Aprile and many more, all organized to embellish Brera´s iconic buildings and streets.

As for the weekly appointments, renowned national and international brands will be participating as: Maisons du Monde, Panasonic, Hem, Wallpaper, Agape Casa, Palomar, Timberland, Fattobene, and more temporary exhibitions. As for designers BDD will be presenting Daniel Libeskind, Lee Broom, Stefano Boeri, Alfonso Femia, Cino Zucchi, 967arch and Maurizio Varratta for Dn, and more.

So get ready, this year’s agenda will not stop a minute!
